Quote Expiry Date Magento 2 — Cart2Quote

Quote Expiry Date Magento 2

The quote expiry date Magento 2 feature in Cart2Quote adds an automatic deadline to every proposal your sales team sends. When a proposal expires, the customer can no longer proceed to checkout at the quoted price. This creates a natural sense of urgency, encourages faster purchasing decisions, and protects your pricing from being accepted weeks or months after market conditions have changed.

How Quote Expiry Date Works in Magento 2

Cart2Quote gives you two ways to set a proposal expiry date. First, you configure a Default Proposal Expiration Time in Advanced Options — a number of days that Cart2Quote applies automatically to every proposal. Second, the admin can set or override the expiry date manually on individual quotes in the backend.

When a proposal reaches its expiry date, Cart2Quote updates the quote status to Proposal Expired automatically. The customer can no longer proceed to checkout at the quoted price. Furthermore, Cart2Quote triggers an expiry notification email to alert both the customer and the admin team that the proposal has lapsed.

Set the default expiration time to 0 to disable automatic expiry entirely. Therefore, proposals without a manually set date remain open indefinitely.

Why Proposal Expiry Dates Close Deals Faster

In B2B sales, open-ended proposals are a common source of pipeline stagnation. A customer who receives a proposal with no deadline has no reason to act quickly. They postpone the decision, other priorities take over, and the opportunity quietly disappears. A clear expiry date changes that dynamic entirely.

For example, a customer receives a proposal valid for 14 days. On day 10, Cart2Quote sends an automatic reminder email. The customer knows they have four days left to accept the price. Consequently, they prioritise the decision and place the order before the deadline. Without the expiry date, the same customer might have delayed for weeks — or never responded at all. In addition, expiry dates protect your pricing integrity. Prices you quoted three months ago may no longer reflect current costs, and an expiry date prevents customers from accepting outdated proposals at prices that no longer work for your business.

Benefits of Quote Expiry Date in Magento 2

  • Creates natural purchasing urgency — customers have a clear deadline to act on the proposal
  • Protects pricing integrity — prevents customers from accepting outdated prices after costs change
  • Automatic status update — Cart2Quote changes the quote status to Proposal Expired automatically
  • Configurable default expiry — set a global default that applies to every proposal automatically
  • Manual override per quote — admins adjust the expiry date on individual proposals as needed

What Happens After a Proposal Expires

When a proposal expires, several things happen automatically. Cart2Quote updates the quote status to Proposal Expired. The customer loses the ability to proceed to checkout at the quoted price. Cart2Quote sends expiry notification emails to the customer and admin. The admin can then reopen the quote, adjust pricing, and send a new proposal if the customer still wants to proceed.

This workflow keeps your pipeline clean and your pricing current. Expired proposals move out of the active queue automatically, so your sales team always works from an accurate view of live opportunities.

When to Use This Feature

This feature suits every B2B store that sends formal proposals. It is particularly valuable in markets where costs fluctuate regularly — such as raw materials, electronics, or logistics — where an open-ended proposal creates genuine commercial risk. In addition, expiry dates work well for any sales team that wants to maintain pipeline momentum and reduce the number of stale proposals sitting in the system.

Combine this with Quote Reminder Emails to nudge customers automatically before their proposal expires, and with Send Quote Proposal to understand the full proposal delivery workflow.

Summary

The quote expiry date feature in Magento 2 adds a deadline to every proposal and transforms open-ended negotiations into time-bound opportunities. Because Cart2Quote manages expiry dates automatically, your sales team sets the rules once and the system enforces them on every proposal. Use expiry dates to create urgency, protect your pricing, and keep your pipeline moving at the pace your business needs.
