The product comment field Magento 2 feature in Cart2Quote gives customers a way to add remarks to individual line items in their quote request. By default, each product row on the quote page displays an “Enter your product comment” expandable link. Clicking it reveals a text area where the customer leaves a note specific to that product — such as a colour preference, a custom requirement, or a delivery instruction.

The comment field stays collapsed by default and expands on click. This keeps the quote form clean while still making the option visible. Each product in the quote list has its own independent comment field. Therefore, customers leave different notes for different items in the same submission.
The admin team sees all comments on the backend quote detail page, next to the relevant line item. Consequently, sales representatives read product-specific context without asking follow-up questions. When you enable the Disable Product Comment Field setting, Cart2Quote removes the expandable link and text area from all line items entirely. The quote form becomes cleaner, but per-product annotation is no longer available.
Keeping the product comment field visible works best for stores where customers regularly have product-specific requirements that differ by line item. Consider these examples:
In these cases, the per-product comment field captures structured, item-level context that would otherwise arrive in a separate email or phone call. As a result, the sales team has everything they need to respond accurately in a single quote view. Furthermore, the expandable design keeps the form tidy even when customers leave detailed notes.

Compare EditionsRemoving the comment field makes sense for stores where per-product annotation plays no role in the quoting workflow. If your customers are experienced repeat buyers who simply list quantities and submit, the comment field adds visual clutter without adding value. In addition, removing it reduces the cognitive load on first-time customers who may feel unsure about what to enter.
Note that disabling this field does not remove general quote remarks. If you want customers to leave one overall note on the quote, enable Quote Remarks separately in Advanced Options. Both settings work independently of each other.
Show the product comment field for stores that handle custom orders, project-based purchasing, or any scenario where line-item instructions vary. Hide it for stores with straightforward catalogue purchasing where a clean, minimal form converts better.
Combine the visible comment field with Enable File Upload to Quote Request to give customers every tool they need to communicate complex requirements alongside their product list.
The product comment field in Magento 2 gives customers a structured way to annotate individual line items with product-specific requirements. Because the field is expandable rather than always visible, it keeps the form clean while remaining accessible. Show it for stores where per-product instructions are common and hide it for stores where a simpler submission form fits the customer workflow better.
